Newport Academy operates teen treatment centers that provide the highest level of care in order to help troubled teenagers heal in the long run. We provide family-centered and results-oriented programs that address the causes and conditions of destructive behaviors. We provide a genuinely unique level of care for kids and families because we are founded on compassion and love.

To serve as the foundation for our unrivaled teen rehab treatment centers, Newport Academy has assembled the best adolescent mental health treatment staff in the country. More than 350 clinicians, therapists, and specialists from around the world make up the Newport Academy team.

Newport Academy board-certified psychiatrists, psychologists, and therapists specialize in teen mental health, teenage substance misuse, depression in teens, teenage anxiety, and eating disorders in our residential treatment programs for teens and young adults. Ph.D. (Psychologist), LMFT (Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist), LCSW (Licensed Clinical Social Worker), LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor), CADC (Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor), LADC (Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor), and MD (Medical Doctor) are just a few of the degrees available (Medical Doctor and Psychiatrist).

At our teen treatment centers, the Newport Academy Treatment Teams meet daily to assess and discuss treatment plans and individual progress. As they recover from teenage addiction, mental health illnesses, and trauma, the team exchanges research and outcomes to maximize each teen’s curriculum and therapeutic growth track.

Each adolescent is assigned an eight-person Treatment Team upon admission to our residential treatment center for teens and young adults, who design a specific program to ensure good growth and long-term rehabilitation.

The Newport Academy addresses the trauma and attachment wounds that manifest as anxiety, depression, mood disorders, and co-occurring difficulties including substance addiction, self-harm, and eating disorders. Our programming is tailored to specific developmental milestones in a young person’s life, such as navigating the numerous stressors and changes that come with puberty. Each client undergoes a thorough evaluation that leads to a personalized treatment plan that incorporates a mix of therapeutic, experiential, and academic/life skills modalities.

We recognize that family involvement is key to achieving sustainable healing at Newport Academy, and our clinical model shifts the focus from the patient as the “problem” to the family as the solution. Strengthening authentic connections with self and others—including healing disruptions in the parent-child bond—is at the heart of our treatment approach. Teens in our outpatient programs build self-compassion, resilience, healthy coping skills, and more trusting relationships with parents and peers.

Our approaches at Newport Academy are different. Individual Counseling is very important. Each adolescent has many weekly meetings with a team of experts. Psychiatrists are also a part of the individual Treatment Team. Moreover, we use Attachment-Based Family Therapy to promote adolescent autonomy while strengthening the emotionally protective, secure-based parent-child bond.

Add to that, the Newport Academy uses Desensitization and Reprocessing of Eye Movements to help people cope with PTSD and traumatic memories. As a result, the brain’s information processing adapts. Adolescents are treated in the context of their entire families. On weekends, family members participate in weekly counseling, recovery work, and supervised group activities.

At Newport Academy, residents can create healthy relationships, support one another, and discuss the healing process in daily group therapy sessions. Residents can learn skills based on Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) to assist them to change the destructive behaviors they adopted to cope with deeper underlying difficulties.

To promote psychological flexibility, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) combines acceptance and mindfulness with commitment and behavior-change tactics. The licensed and highly qualified clinicians at Newport Academy specialize in adolescent health and development. As a result, our medical staff is on call 24 hours a day to monitor residents.
