The Salvation Army operates Adult Rehabilitation Centers across the United States. These are charitable, faith-based residential work-therapy programmes for adults experiencing serious social, emotional or spiritual difficulties, including problems related to substance use. They are not presented by the provider as medical detoxification or psychiatric-hospital programmes.
Programme and eligibility
The national programme runs for 180 days and includes lodging, food, individual and group counselling, religious services, life-skills development, recreation and work therapy. Published eligibility includes ages 21–65, passing a drug test and breathalyser at arrival, and being able to participate in work assignments of up to eight hours daily and no more than 40 hours weekly. Local centres determine suitability.
Cost and locations
The provider says the programme is generally offered without charge and does not require insurance, although qualifying government benefits may sometimes offset room, board or clothing costs.
