Description
The Castle Graig hospital provides medical services to clients dealing with addictions, trauma, and eating disorders and is considered the top rehabilitation centre in the Uk. Located amid 50 acres of private retreat woodland set among the beautiful hills of the Scottish Borders. Castle Craig is a Category B listed building, built-in 1798 by the Earl of Hyndford, whose family name was Carmichael. The building has retained many of its original features including magnificent fireplaces, marble pillars, exquisitely carved panelling and furniture and many other features. The Castlecraig estate itself goes back into the mists of time, beginning, from what we know, as a temporary Roman Camp with a Roman Fort. Castle Craig’s location guarantees privacy, tranquillity and inspiration during addiction recovery. Our private detox and rehab retreat offers an escape from chaotic lifestyles, in a setting where patients can focus on their recovery.
The Castle Craig staff are passionate about their work and work hard every day to provide clients with the support and care they need. The Castle has a high retention rate. The majority of their staff have been with us for 5 years or longer, and some have been through treatment themselves. Each member of the Craig family is highly qualified and trained and holds the values of integrity and devotion in the heart of their work. Our patient satisfaction rate of 98% speaks for itself and many people who experienced Castle Craig return to visit for our annual reunion or else keep in touch with their therapists and other staff members are they leave treatment.
Castle Craig’s 4-6 week inpatient detox and therapy programme treats a wide range of addictions, including:
– Alcohol addiction
– Drug addiction
– Opiate addiction
– Prescription drug addiction
– Cocaine addiction
– Stimulant addiction
– Benzodiazepine addiction
– Gambling addiction
– Dual-diagnosis disorders
After admission, patients will be carefully assessed by our clinical and therapeutic team to determine the severity of their addiction and what their treatment plan will look like. After the initial assessment, patients may find that they have other underlying behavioural addiction issues. The centre takes this very seriously and always treats the psychological aspect as well as the substance dependency to ensure a full recovery. Often problems such as anxiety, depression, or PTSD can accompany addiction. This treatment process is known as dual diagnosis treatment. The treatment begins with the detox process and the duration of it will depend on each patient.
After detox, patients undergo individual and group therapy and participate in education sessions and lectures to help them better understand their addiction. These sessions will help them connect with themselves and each other, and discover the reasons behind their addiction. They will have the opportunity to participate in various activities and modern therapeutic techniques, such as art group, drumming, pilates and many outdoor activities. There is also an on-site gym to allow patients to stay active during their stay.
At Castle Craig, the staff understand that each patient’s experience and addiction is unique and thus each patient receives an individualized treatment plan. Individuals admitted will go through a 4-6 week programme that has been personalised to their specific needs by our team of experts and involves a combination of specialized therapies, including:
– Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT)
– Group therapy
– Individual therapy
– Complementary and holistic therapies
– EMDR
– Trauma therapy
– Grief therapy
– Family counselling
– Equine therapy
The benefits of personalised addiction treatment include:

– Life skills. Patients learn to cope more effectively and positively with difficult situations in the real world;

– A chance for trust to build and a form a healthy, open relationship between the patient and therapist, making group therapy and individual therapy more effective.
The Castle Craig philosophy places great importance on involving the family members in the process of recovery. The more the family know about the addiction and know-how to offer the right support, the better the outcome for the patient. Their family therapy programme helps patients and families to connect and share their feelings of shame, hurt and anger. The goals of family therapy include:
– It helps them to communicate again
